Cleverly wins easily against Krasniqi

Nathan Cleverly successfully defended his World Boxing Organization or the WBO Light Heavyweight Championship against Robert Krasniqi last night as he remains on course for a title unification match against the International Boxing Federation or the IBF Light Heavyweight Championship holder Bernard Hopkins in a lucrative fight.

The unbeaten Welshman stayed on course for that staggering payday as he brushed aside the Kosovo born German on points, winning 120 – 108, 120 – 108 and 119 – 109 at the fabled Wembley Arena in England.
The 26 year old was denied several stoppages by the stubborn Krasniqi, as he refused to give up after going down under the severity of the punches landed by the Welshman. The three judges awarded the German fighter just one round in the entire bout. Cleverly, who completed a degree course in mathematics from the famous Cardiff University, will now get the chance to take on Hopkins, the oldest ever champion in professional boxing history at 48 years of age in a mouth watering clash at the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Krasniqi suffered only the third defeat of his career and it also snapped a 38 match winning streak that he had amassed while the Welshman Cleverly secured the 26th win of his career. The match had been widely tipped to be a stroll in the park for the unbeaten and although many expected Krasniqi not to put up any sort of challenge whatsoever, the German actually did pretty well to last the entire duration of the match.

And now that he is done with the mandatory challenge of the German, Cleverly can look forward to what will arguably be the biggest fight of his young career and he will have the whole of the United Kingdom behind him when he takes on the big man from the US.
