Carl Froch rejected Cleverly fight

Frank Warren, the acclaimed boxing promoter has confirmed to the English media that English boxing world champion Carl Froch has turned down the chance to take on Nathan Cleverly in a much hyped Fight of Britain after his massive win against Mikkel Kessler.

Not only that, Warren also revealed that it didn’t take the International Boxing Federation or the IBF and the World Boxing Association or the WBA Super Middleweight champion more than an hour to reject the offer as well.

The Welshman Cleverly is being considered one of the best up and coming boxers, not only in the United Kingdom but also in the world and he was extremely keen to take on his first major challenge in the form of the Englishman Carl Froch. But Fran Warren’s revelations have poured water over his hopes. According to Warren, the Nottingham based boxer is looking for a deciding third match against Kessler as well as a chance to avenge his defeat at the hands of Andre Ward.

Meanwhile, Froch, while speaking to the local media a few days after his famous victory, mentioned that he doesn’t understand how people are calling him to take on the likes of Cleverly and Englishman George Groves.

Froch stated that neither of the two fighters has fought anyone in the Top 15 whereas he regularly fights guys in the Top 5, and hence, the two must prove their worth by taking on a big name before challenging him.

And in this context, Warren stated that he had made a written offer of £ 2.5 million to the camp of Carl Froch about taking on Nathan Cleverly at a compromise weight, and that too, in a non-title bout; but he just doesn’t seem interested in taking on anyone who might have a chance of beating him.
